Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's natural for doubts to be asked about his future after a further heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in 12 games, marking the club's poorest streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a tough night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got a lot of backing from management,” the coach remarked.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but if you are in a managerial role and underperforming then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I accept my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”
He added, “In the normal discussions I sense the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this game yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Failings and Player Reaction
The manager lamented known failings from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a phase of this nature with outcomes like these.”
He finished, “However we still have the emblem on our shirts. And as long as it is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”
“We’re going to try to help the side back to where it needs to be, show everyone again what this club is about and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
