The actor Pat Finn had a key role in the acclaimed sitcom The Middle.

US actor Pat Finn, who featured in beloved programs like Friends, Seinfeld and The Middle, has passed away at the age of 60.

The comedic improv actor died at home in Los Angeles on Monday after undergoing treatment for a cancer diagnosis beginning in 2022, as reported by media reports.

"Pat never met a stranger - only friends he hadn't encountered," his family said in a statement.

They noted that he had "lived his life fully - with joy and exuberance".

A Notable Career on Screen

His debut TV appearance was on a show starring George Wendt in the mid-90s, where he portrayed the titular character's brother.

He also had a regular part on Murphy Brown between 1995 and 1997.

He played the part of the character Joe Mayo in "Seinfeld" in 1998, playing a host known to delegate burdensome jobs to his guests.

During the end of the 90s and start of the 2000s, he appeared as a guest star on several hit series, such as:

  • King of Queens
  • "Friends"
  • That '70s Show
  • "House"

His most famous role for portraying Bill Norwood in "The Middle", starring in eight seasons from 2011 to 2018.

His film credits include It's Complicated (2009) and Santa Paws 2: The Santa Pups (2012).

A Life in Improv

Outside of his acting parts, Finn was a skilled improviser and worked as a teacher at the University of Colorado, where he was a professor.

He was involved with a six-member improv team called Beer Shark Mice.

"Finn guided, supported, and advised many learners throughout the years and you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone anyplace who has anything negative to say about him," his loved ones expressed.

Paying homage, fellow actor Richard Kind remarked there was "not a more kind, gentle, or funny, down to earth person you could encounter".

"Perpetually optimistic, assisting others to improve and be funnier. An excellent dad and person," Kind wrote publicly.

Pat Finn is remembered by his partner Donna, three children, and his family.
