England Coach Tim Southee Unsure on The Ashes Participation
The bowler's last Test match for the Kiwis was versus the English side in the final month of 2024.
England bowling consultant Southee is still working through what his involvement will be during the upcoming Ashes series in the host nation.
The ex- Kiwi pace bowler is only likely to be present for the first Test due to his involvement in the ILT20 tournament, which begins on December 2 in the UAE.
The 36-year-old, 36, assumed a role as the English team's pace bowling advisor in the summer after taking 391 scalps in 107 Tests for the Kiwis.
Speaking as the English squad for the first of three T20 matches against New Zealand was named, he said of his availability: "We are still evaluating that at the moment.
"We'll see what happens over the coming days."
English pace icon Stuart Broad had declared the Australian team as their "worst team since 2010", but Southee was in little doubt over what to expect during the series, which begins on November 21.
"In my view there's at any time a bad Australian cricket team," he said.
"Our focus is squarely on our own objectives. I think the caliber of [England's] team that's going out to the host country is brilliant.
"It ought to be an absolute cracker, that series. Not just [are|do] fans from both nations eagerly anticipate it, I think the entire cricketing community is."
But, prior to England head to Perth for the first Ashes match, they take on the Kiwis in Christchurch on Saturday.
