Australian batsman Travis Head Reaches Out to Ben Duckett After Online Backlash
Demonstrating the relationships that exist beneath the surface of international cricket, Travis Head has revealed he sent a private message of support to England's Ben Duckett.
The act of kindness came after Duckett faced a significant criticism on social media.
Unverified Footage Ignited Debate
This followed the emergence of unverified video clips appeared on social media.
These clips purportedly showed Duckett, reportedly intoxicated, in a tetchy conversation with a fan.
This took place during the team's mid-series break in Noosa, unexpectedly placing the opening batter in an unwanted spotlight.
England Management Commented on Conduct
Earlier that day, England's managing director, Rob Key, had spoken out.
He called heavy alcohol consumption "totally inappropriate" and confirmed he would be looking into reports from the trip.
“I get along with Ducky well, I reached out to him to see if he was going alright,” Head stated.
He made these comments at the MCG following England's quick win in the fourth Test.
An Appeal for Understanding
Head stressed the personal side of the situation. "Cricketers are people too. What you do in personal time is up to you."
He noted the high-profile nature of their lives but felt the reaction was "a bit stiff [unfair]."
"Everyone made a lot more out of it that there should have been." Head continued. "I reckon it was an England fan."
Sharing his perspective, the Australian batter said, "It wasn't a genuine problem in my opinion."
He suggested that "When there’s big gaps in Tests, people have got to find something to talk about."
Stokes Backs His Player
Prior to this, England captain Ben Stokes had publicly defended Duckett.
In an emotional press conference before the fourth Test, Stokes called for "understanding" towards his teammate.

On the field, Duckett made 34 important runs in England's successful chase of 175.
Following the victory, he posted online, writing, "A fantastic finish to a very difficult week."
Head expressed hope for more play in the next Test, joking, "Maybe if the game lasts longer, there will be fewer off-field stories."
